The works included a two storey extension to the main training centre building; a two storey building to form a grounds team and visitor centre facility; a single storey building to form a grounds team and parent spectator facility; two new caged training pitches; the erection of a new security lodge and alterations to the existing access arrangements; and, remodelling of the existing car park layout and the creation of a new pedestrian walkway between the academy team’s building and the main training centre.

The planning application was approved by Trafford Council’s Planning Committee, and was referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government due to its Green Belt location. Secretary of State Eric Pickles chose not to ‘call in’ the scheme.
